Riots, people, riots.
Riots in five or six cities in England. It is crazy.
This is my husband's facebook comment from yesterday
Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor, reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Permit people to accrue huge debt then ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them.....oh, I see..
He has a point. People started dropping off the bottom of society in the '80's (thanks Maggie T) and nothing has been able to stop it since.
Parents are being blamed. Part of me feels "quite right too". If parents don't know where their teenagers are at 3 in the morning......
On the other hand, they probably gave up years ago.

I saw the stuff about the riots and I really have been hoping (and praying) you guys arent in te middle of it too badly! I hope things get better over there soon!
We are not near to any of the big cities that have been affected so hopefully we will not be seeing any of it here. It is spreading though, which is worrying.
What is really strange is that it simply riots, not protests or demonstrations gone violent. It is just teenagers and young people engaging in mindless violence and mob rule, just for the sake of it. I think that says something awful about English society at the moment, that so many people are so badly educated, disciplined and disengaged from normal society that they can smash city centres night after night. There is also the worry that it is being hi-jacked by far-right extremists who are targetting certain parts of society. Three people died last night because they were defending their property - they were Asian. I have seen stuff on Facebook that is racist in content and they are loving the fact that the collapse of law and order means they can do what they want without it being recognised for what it is.
So scary.
Oh that is so scary! I really hope things calm down soon. It is so sad that there is so much hatred. I really hope and pray that this ends soon and this doesnt happen here in the states too. I am sending lots of prayers for you and your country!
Your husband's comment really lends some perspective. It's no wonder that people are angry, but I really hope that they begin doing something constructive with that anger soon. There is so much room for positive change - in both my country and yours - but theft and vandalism are not likely to help it along!
I'll be thinking of you, and hope that things don't escalate in your area.
